Where would be a good place to buy land? for a variety of purposes?

Where would be a good place to buy land like you see in those ebay auctions?. maybe 1 to 5 acres or more for lets say 5 to 10 grand. its not really to build a house in or anything just a neat place to go camping or hang out for a few weeks. Maybe like a hideout. To practice archery or develop opther skills. its for many different reasons i guess. and it wouldn't be bad to have the option to build in the future. Any thoughts or ideas? the adirondacks? the everglades? california pines?
