Adorable guy at practice, help!?

Alright, there is this cute guy at my practice but I don't know much about him at all. All I know is he's my age, his name and that's about it. He seems like a really sweet guy and he joked around with me a bit last practice but what should I do? I'd really like to get to know him better, even as a friend but don't want to come on too strong. How should I approach him without seeming to desperate or obvious that I think he's super gorgeous?
