When did texting become a way of maintaining a relationship?

it really depends on the person. I think the reason most people rather text their bf/gf is because sometimes being on the phone restricts you from doing such activities that you want to do. Texting it just a lot easier. I personally HATE talking on the phone, I have always struggled with stuttering so I was never too comfortable speaking. However my girlfriend loves talking on the phone and does not reply to texts fast so I'm usually on the phone with her. Sometimes you gotta do things that you don't like, for the ones you love (:
