How long does it take for a man to open up to a woman, if he is shy?

There is this man I am in love with. It has taken him 2 months to respond to me. I wished him a Happy Father's Day online. He said, "Thank you, Christina". I wrote him another message, but he never responded back. I am thinking about not talking to him for 2 months to see what he does and if he comes up and talks to me. Men, did it take you a very long time to open up to a woman you were/are in love with. I heard that it takes some men 6 months to a year to approach a woman or ask her out. You see, this man I am in love with has not been at church for a month. I talked to a friend, and she told me that he is terrified of women. He does not want to deal with women. How long is too long to wait for a man?
