How did Sumatran Elephants get to Indonesia?

The same way Native Americans got to the Americas from Asia: All the land on Earth used to be one big continent, and over millions of years it has been breaking up into islands and continents. The elephants' ancestors wandered into Sumatra before it broke off the rest of Asia and have remained there since.
