ABA Routing/Transit #?

I am in Jakarta and a friend who owes me money in the US has tried at two different banks he has accounts at to wire money into my USD savings account here in Jakarta. I have provided the IBAN, Swift code, account number, my name, bank name, both bank and my address, my bank personal ID number, but the bank in the US says I need to provide the ABA Routing/Transit No. Local Jakarta Bank says they have no such thing and I receive wire transfers from Europe to my US account in the without that code so whats the deal with these two banks? What is ABA American Banking Association?
